Solar Air Conditioning
By admin | December 14, 2009
This video starts with a visual montage of the sheer number of air conditioners used on our street in Cairo, Egypt, describing them as energy parasites that actually increase the heat of the surrounding air. It then shows the vacuum tube heat pipe solar absorption cooling air conditioning system installed by solar engineer Les Hamasaki at the Debs Park Audubon Environmental Center in Los Angeles. Les Hamasaki describes the 10-ton solar chiller and we conclude with a note about how solar chillers not only eliminate the need for Air Conditioners, but the need for entire power plants. They also produce hot water and can be used for sterilizing and desalinating contaminated water. As we say in the video, solar air conditioners “USE THE SUN’S LIGHT TO DEFEAT THE SUN’S HEAT!” Thus, the hotter it gets outside, the cooler it gets inside!

This guy is an …
This guy is an idiot. The heat put out by AC is equal to the COOL on the other side. Here is the kicker… 10 ft below you the temprature is probably a constant 50 to 60 year round. It’s MUCH easier to tap into the groud than the sun. If you have a lake nearby it’s even easier.

235000 Dollars? …
235000 Dollars? Most solar systems for average sized homes have been estimated at 30 000 to 50 000 dollars with a money back estimation of 10- 20 years. Your calculation is 10 times higher !

I bet you could buy …
I bet you could buy the largest possible water tank burry it, fill it up with water run cooling hoses in you walls and have it powered by a motor/pump connected to a few solar panels and or wind turbines for a fraction of a fraction of the price that that system would cost. That system would cost more than the price of most peoples homes. The average joe would never be able to have that system.

The idea is …
The idea is wonderful…However I priced a solar system for my home and it came to 235,000 dollars….It is extremely expensive. I can Air condition my home with regular a/c from the grid for about 100 years with the $235,000 the solar (photovoltaic) system costs…….I would also appreciate a more centered approach instead of the quasi religious introduction done here.

Nimitz class …
Nimitz class carriers use LiBr systems fed with nuclear generated steam. Clean and efficient.

I like the whole …
I like the whole Idea and what not. What happens when it’s humid on a overcast day? (happens quite often in my area) Humidity is acttaly what makes you feel hot. Your body sweats to get rid of heat, and if that sweat inst evaporating then you’re going to be uncomfortable. you could have a 90 degree room at 10% relative humidity and you may be comfortable, or even cold, granted you can put up with static eletricity.

you don´t think so? …
you don´t think so? A/C systems are as inefficient as any gasoline engines or electric motors. I´d say they produce a lot of heat, at least three times the heat they´re taking out of your comfortable Air Conditioned rooms. You can confirm that, just go stand up in front of the AC radiator for an hour wen it´s working and you will see.

I seems to have assumed that many nicknames here can’t come from so many people. And, the pen of Mr.Burns is really very similar to this writing mode. You can’t find easy many people in Europe, for example, writing so foolishly.

The difference is, …
The difference is, that we drive small natural gas cars, they drive big gasoline trucks. Here, are no serious energy politic, but that’s good, compared to wars to steal oil. It’s a cultural problem.

Not at all. I did …
Not at all. I did not speak ironically. USA really has a different political class, which includes people smarter than the average Argentine politicians. Even many artists are more involved there than here. Here are just now moves artists, athletes, and relevant people who begin to fight for the planet. There are advanced in that.

You seem to be so …
You seem to be so deeply entrenched in crusade against the Americans that you seem to have assumed I’m American
Is this the almost laser beam clear thought process that you also apply to global warming. Or do you just go with the knee jerk reaction?

I’m afraid I can not remember the BBC talking about ET’s surgery (maybe it was only broadcast on planet Ga Ga where you seem to be a resident. Did you tape it?)
Hottest year I remember is 1976. Water shortages the lot. Since then the summer have been fairly normal.
Global warming is no joke Nobody finds being conned by their respective governments funny.

The BBC also talked about ET’s surgery and even they had videos… Remember?
Come on! Seriously!
The ice age is today a possibility for the future, if the ocean undercurrents get broken.
This winter we had 42ºC, midwinter. Think about that, it’s not a joke.

Of course, here in Argentina are a lot of corrupt polititians. And there, in USA, you have many intelligent polititians, with awareness of the dangers of the planet.

I see they’ve found a huge deposit of oil and gas near the Falkland Islands (aka Malvinas)
I’m sure no one in Argentina want any of this oil

“Global warming is not a hoax” Do you also believe that Coka Cola taught the world to sing?
Why do people react so strongly to any view other than the ice caps are melting and you did this?
I grew up in the 70’s when scientist were convinced we were going into an ice age.
Even Al Gore’s charts show that the temperature rises then CO2 rises When the temperature rises the oceans release CO2 (these cover 71% of the world That’s a lot of CO2) [see BBC Great Global warming Swindle]

Accept it, USAnians, the world is changing for better. And now is too late to fight against sustentability, millions of human lifes are in danger, due to climate change. Don’t fight anymore. Accept it, and swallow your oil.

Money? The system …
Money? The system is not expensive, compared to a electricity bill for entire live. This system is far cheaper, and quickly amortized. AND, there is people all around the world, giving systems like this, for free; like universities and governments in the third world.
